A Greener Home Show
Another debut at the Marin Home Show is an edible display garden created by landscaper Zachary Wahle. After working on a Caribbean farm and getting a master's degree in ecological agricultural in California, the Fairfax resident started Edible Attractive Terrains (EAT), a landscape company that builds sustainable, edible gardens designed with eye appeal. In his display garden, he'll demonstrate the planting of a food forest where multiple layers of plants are grown to each plant's benefit, using a top canopy of fruit and nut trees underplanted with berry bushes and tomatoes, perhaps some artichokes and eggplants, a medicinal plant like yarrow for a ground cover and underneath that, some potatoes. "I try to provide people with a garden with the greatest number of functions," he says. "It's not just for aesthetics or to provide summer fruit or to attract birds but a garden that incorporates all of their needs and desires." If you get there early on Saturday before his supply runs out, he'll have garden produce for you to sample and young plants to take home. The Marin Home Show & Benefit Jazz Fest will be at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall and Fairgrounds in San Rafael on June 2 and 3.
